About Us - The Leftovers
We are The Leftovers, a group of 10 students who came together in September of 2023 with zero experience in robotics. Despite the odds, we formed a tight bond through long hours, relentless work, and an unshakable drive to win. Our hard work paid off, and we went from clueless beginners to qualifying for the MVCC Regional Championships in Utica, NY. The journey has been anything but easy, but we’ve transformed into a competitive force, united by our passion.
Our mentor, Jonathan Peter, once said, “Nothing works right the first ten times you do it,” and those words have become a mantra for not just our team, but for all four teams at John Jay High School. Success in robotics isn’t immediate; it's messy, full of setbacks, and often requires countless attempts to get something functional. We’ve embraced that reality. We’ve learned that every failure brings us closer to success—not just in FTC, but in life. That determination is what keeps us pushing forward, even when everything seems to fall apart.
Beyond the work on our robot, we take pride in giving back. We’re actively involved in outreach, visiting our school’s robotics club and mentoring younger First Lego League teams. By sharing our experiences and what we’ve learned, we help others develop the same problem-solving mindset and perseverance we’ve come to live by. We aim to inspire the next generation to persist, not only in FIRST but in life.
